Founded in 1922, they were first promoted to 1st Division in 1958/59, were they remained for 12 consecutive seasons. Their biggest success was in season 1968/1969 when they managed to make it to the King's Cup final, becoming the runner-ups after losing to the Athletic Club. Elche returned to First Division during the 70's, but perhaps the most memorable fact in those days was the construction of the new stadium, a heritage which is the pride and joy of the green band club's fans. In 2013, Elche managed to return to First Division becoming the first club ever in Second Division's history to remain at the top of the table from the first match until the last. They remained in the top category until 2015/2016 when they were subject to an administrative relegation to 2nd division.
