The Elche Club de Fútbol was founded in 1922, through the merger of several local clubs, including Illice, Sporting and Gimnástica de Elche. It was first promoted to the 1st Division in the 1958-59 season.
Year of foundation: 1992
Stadium: Martínez Valero Stadium
President: Jose Sepulcre
It was first promoted to the 1st Division in the 1958-59 season, and remained in this category for twelve consecutive seasons.
Its greatest achievement was reaching the finals of the Copa del Generalísimo, (the current King's Cup) in the 1968-69 season, when it became the subchampion after being defeated by Athletic Club.
After its golden age, a new era started. The team was adequately reinforced, which, together with its solid foundation, made it possible for the team to return to the First Division in the 1972-73 season. However, the main fact about the 70s is the building of the New Stadium, the pride and glory of Elche followers.
After a bad spell in the 90s, the team became the champion of the league on 26th May 2013, with a draw against Real Madrid Castilla, earning the first position at the end of the season. This was the first time a team was the overall leader of the Adelante League in its entire history.
